TEHRAN – Annoyed over a cancellation of Iranian nationals’ visas by certain European countries, some Majlis lawmakers have called on the Foreign Ministry to respond in kind, MP Mahmoud Ahmadi-Biqash announced on Sunday.
Talking to reporters, Biqash stated that the request was made in a recent meeting between Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and members of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee. He added that Mottaki was asked why European nationals who visit Iran get their visas at Imam Khomeini airport in Tehran instead of receiving visa at Iran’s embassies abroad while European countries do not provide the same services to Iranian nationals.
Quoting Mottaki, Biqash said the fact that European nationals get visa at Imam Khomeini airport does not mean they can enter the country, and if their identities are not verified and the process of issuing visa is not completed, they will be deported to their countries.
The MPs on the foreign policy committee also called on the Foreign Ministry to take the necessary measures so that Iranians can travel to other countries on the same terms, Biqash explained.
Mottaki also noted that Iran is negotiating with certain countries including Syria, Turkey, and West African countries over the issue, Biqash added
